Greg Tomaszewicz - Lanor Productions
Greg has now graduated from Lancaster University and was supported by LUSU Enterprise in setting up his film company.
‘I had an idea of starting a film company, however – I had little conception of how to start and run a business. I hence went to LUSU Enterprise to talk to the staff and see how to go about with this. Not only did I receive an investment from LUSU that enabled me to buy a camera, but I also got guidance and vital connections that have helped me develop my company. LUSU even hired me to create films for them and thanks to them I got to visit India and Malaysia while making films! Now I employ a few people and my company is growing every day, and I am eternally grateful to the people that helped me from LUSU’

Katherine Embling – Founder Lick o wrist Jewellery
Katherine is in her final year at University and was supported by involve enterprise to found a unique jewellery business based on sweet designs.
When I started working with the Involve enterprising unit, it was what I believe to be the start of my adult life. From day one I was given ample support and information on how to expand my jewellery business at my own pace. What I love most about working with involve is the enthusiasm they have and the confidence they give you when they believe an idea can work.
Through Involve I have met people with the relevant experience to help me progress as an entrepreneur, an opportunity I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise. They have also given me more opportunities to make money by informing me of market stalls on and off campus and how to get into shops outside the University. To date my jewellery is in three shops nationwide, Involve helped me make that step much more quickly than I could have alone.
The most important meeting I had was one in which I learned about copyright laws in relation to my business, I began with little undestanding and only an hour later I felt comfortable and much more assertive about approaching the topic. The skills and information I have learned aren’t just applicable to my current business but are transferable to anything I may venture to do in the future, giving me confidence when applying for jobs after my I finish my degree.
The experiences I have had while working with Involve, from standing at a freezing cold market stall to drawing up risk assessments, have helped me see the real side of business and the hard work that is necessary to make it succeed. I believe understanding what it takes to start your own business is attractive to a prospective employer and I also believe my experience working with Involve will benefit my employability in the future.
